Description
1 November 2011 - 31 October 2016
ISSTI is contributing to this major study of e-prescribing technologies in hospitals, Investigating the implementation, adoption and effectiveness of e-Prescribing systems in English hospitals: a mixed methods national evaluation.
Edinburgh University is a partner in this project led by the University of Birmingham, with funding from the National Institute for Health Research for the first three years. Aziz Sheikh (Medicine, University of Edinburgh) leads the project and Robin Williams (ISSTI) is leading the work package that addresses procurement, implementation and adoption.
The project will explore how software design and implementation strategies affect the outcomes of e-prescribing. The project will examine whether e-prescribing technologies, especially those incorporating alert systems, will reduce the significant levels of potentially avoidable morbidity and mortality resulting from prescribing errors.
